To start
with, we want to say sorry it took us a so long to write. In the last weeks the
thought about writing a blog article went down in all our new impressions. But
now we want to catch up!
The most
important news: we have new scope of duties. Since the beginning of
September we visit the HOPE project (Health Opportunity & positive
Environment for the BPL PLHIV and affected families) while the children are at
school.
This is a project from NMCT which looks after HIV-infected people living beyond poverty line. It includes financial and nutrition help, different trainings which teach the people how to deal with their illness in a better way and sustainable support due to the establishment of people-development-groups (kind of self-help-groups). Furthermore HOPE stands up for the rights of its beneficiaries on a political level.

We have met the people supported by the NGO and have
interviewed them on their current situation. Our documentation work shall
become part of a "success story". These stories are supposed to be
used to later show the change in people's lives caused by HOPE.
For us this task is incredible interesting and enriching.
Especially we like the encounter with the people. Even though we can only talk
to them through the translation of the counsellor, we think that we get deep
insights and are happy about the openness with which they meet us.
Still, we love our tasks in Abhaya and have taken the girls
to our hearts.
At the weekends we started to do group activities together.
For example we organized a "German Day" and thus introduced our home
county. It included a geographical part, a German breakfast at Indian lunch
time (because of the time difference ;-)), insights in the life of a German
teenager, "Topfschlagen" (a typical German game) and making flags. To
fulfil the wish of the girls we made waffles with pudding and nutella at the
next weekend.
Regarding the Indian culture we have learned a
lot during the last time: we have been to two marriages and visited the big
temple in Madurai (214 km road distance from our place). Furthermore we could
experience the Indian birthday traditions with our girls.
